The Managing Director of the C.J.Patel Group Sundip Patel has died in Suva.
He was 52 and had been in the country to spend Christmas with his family.
It is understood he died at the weekend from a suspected heart attack.
Mr Patel, who had a background in marketing, ambulance single-handedly took the company from a one-shop distribution entity on Renwick Road to a holding company with 12 subsidiaries and an international presence.
One of the subsidiaries is the Fiji Sun newspaper based at Walu Bay, Suva.
The company now has a presence in Papua New Guinea, East Timor, Australia, Sri Lanka and India.
Mr Patel was also recently named on the board of Fiji Airways.
He was survived by both his parents, his wife and three children (two girls and a boy).
