A medical team from New Zealand, led by former Fiji citizen, Dr Parma Nand arrived in the country on Wednesday to perform cardio surgical treatment for the needy and less fortunate citizens.
The team comprises of cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiologists, anaesthetists, intensivits, technicians, specialist theatre nurses, intensive care and ward nurses and pysiotherapists. Some are former Fiji citizens while others are New Zealanders or nationals working in the New Zealand Health System.
The medical team who are here on what they call Mission No. 8 renders all services free of charge. They are facilitated by the Friends of Fiji Heart Foundation, a registered charitable trust organisation in New Zealand comprised of former Fiji citizens.
Friends of Fiji Heart Foundation have extended its services over the last 7 years to include open heart surgery, pace maker implants and checks, coronary angiography and angioplasty and A-V fistula for kidney haemodialysis.
The team is based in Lautoka and will be around until November 26.
