Fijian duo Kaveni Natadra and Ovini Yasawa have clinched the 2013 Vodafone South Pacific Hobie Youth Championship after three days of intense racing under very cold and wet conditions at Laucala.

The duo made a strong come-back after finishing in second place on the previous day. “It was a great win and we feel very proud of what we’ve achieved,” says Kaveni, who still quivered from the cold after intense sailing early in the morning.

Skipper Epeli Droma and his  crew Tome Taku grabbed second place. The two were leading the race on day two of the competition but were not able to maintain their lead on the final day. Jonas Appriou and Francis Tu’ulaki from Wallis and Futuna, respectively, took third place. “We’re happy with what we came out to achieve,” Francis tells maiLife, speaking in a heavy accent.

The Fiji team will now prepare for the BSP  Oceania Championship, which takes place at the Uprising Resort, in Pacific Harbour from August 2-7. Teams from Australia, Hong Kong, PNG, and Brazil are expected to take part.
