Two Iwa Shekar goals in the first half and a third by Fadeel Khan gave New Zealand a 3-2 win against Australia in the final of the Muslim Sports Association FANCA tournament at Nausori’s Ratu Cakobau Park this afternoon.

The game Australian side fought back with two goals, but ran out of time.

The NZ side started well and dominated play, although the Australians countered well on several plays.

Australia were favourites going into the final, having beaten both New Zealand and defending champion Fiji in the earlier rounds.

New Zealand Muslim Sports Association General Secretary Iqbal Hussein commended the players and team officials for their effort, saying they made everyone proud.

In the Over-35 grade, Fiji beat Australia 4-1 in the final, while Canada beat Australia 3-2 in the Over-42 grade final.
