THE HIJACKED BOOK LAUNCH
The book ‘1987: 20 Years On’ was launched on the eve of the 21st anniversary of Fiji’s first military coup. Edited by Professor Brij Lal of the Australian National University (ANU), Professor Vijay Naidu of USP and Dr Ganesh Chand of the Fiji Institute of Technology (FIT) the book records some of the important as well as disturbing developments in the life of this country over the last two decades. The launch was however overshadowed by a spat between academic Wadan Narsey and John Samy, the head of the secretariat of the Peoples Charter. Wadan accused Samy of ‘hijacking’ the event.
