BAINIMARAMA CALLS FOR SOLIDARITY & SUPPORT FOR CYCLONE VICTIMS

PRIME Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has called for solidarity and prayers for the people of Lau enduring the wrath of TC Gita.

Mr Bainimarama also expressed support for the people of Tonga who have been affected by the category 4 disaster saying Fiji will do all it could to help people from the island kingdom.

“Once again, our nation is being subjected to the terrible forces of nature. The thoughts and prayers of all Fijians are with our people in southern Lau who are enduring the ordeal of Tropical Cyclone Gita,” Mr Bainimarama said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are also with our Tongan neighbours as they cope with the aftermath of Gita and the terrible destruction that has been wrought on Tongan homes and infrastructure.”

“As Prime Minister, I am resolutely committed to responding to the disaster response in Lau and any other affected parts of Fiji. And as the damage is assessed, we are also offering our assistance to Tonga in the form of personnel to assist in their relief effort and clean-up.”

“As we did two years ago next week with Cyclone Winston, the Fijian people join hands in solidarity with each other and with our Tongan neighbours.”
