DESPITE training in a turf smudged with cow dung and all sort of debris pushed Camari Adilasaqa beyond her limits to get the gold medal in the Open Girls 3000metres.
Her coach Mrs Arieta Sakosese spoke on behalf of Camari as the 14-year-old was in tears and lost for words after her race.
“We train in a ground filled with cow dung and all sort of debri and to have Camari win this gold medal for Wainibuka Secondary School,” Mrs Sakosese said.
“It shows that with limited facilities we can achieve big things.”
Mrs Sakosese who is the school’s long distance coach, said Camari will hopefully be the next Akesa Drotini.
“I hope she is not stolen by other prominent schools,” Mrs Sakosese said.
“In camp last night I told our athletes to have faith in God and themselves and believe they can achieve their dreams.”
Vani Loloma took out the silver medal while Vika Tuilomana took the bronze. Both athletes were from Adi Cakobau School.
