WEATHER UPDATE

A HEAVY RAIN WARNING REMAINS IN FORCE FOR THE WHOLE OF FIJI GROUP.

SITUATION: SEVERE TROPICAL CYCLONE PAM CENTRE [918HPA] CATEGORY 5 WAS LOCATED NEAR 14 DECIMAL 9 SOUTH 169 DECIMAL 4 EAST OR ABOUT 900 KILOMETERS WEST-NORTHWEST OF NADI AT 6AM TODAY. THE CYCLONE IS MOVING SOUTH-SOUTHWEST AT ABOUT 15 KM/HR.

ON THIS TRACK, THE CENTRE OF TROPICAL CYCLONE PAM IS EXPECTED TO REMAIN TO THE FAR WEST OF FIJI. HOWEVER, THE ASSOCIATED ACTIVE RAIN BANDS IS ANTICIPATED TO AFFECT THE GROUP TILL THE WEEKEND. FORECAST: PERIODS OF RAIN, HEAVY AT TIMES AND SQUALLY THUNDERSTORMS.

LOCALISED HEAVY RAIN MAY LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING IN LOW LYING AREAS.

THE NEXT SPECIAL WEATHER BULLETIN ON HEAVY RAIN WILL BE ISSUED AROUND 10:00AM TODAY.

ROADS UPDATE

Below is the recent update issued by the Fiji Roads Authority. The report details the FRA’s current status and flooding/damage to road infrastructure caused by the heavy rain associated with Cyclone Pam. Occasional rain is being experienced in all divisions and all roads are currently still open. Patrols are in place with crews monitoring problem areas and attending to minor flooding issues as they arise.
