Fiji’s national airline, is boosting its New Zealand schedule with the addition of 14 extra flights from Christchurch to Fiji during the peak season.

The supplementary flights, which will operate between June and December 2016, reflect the strength of the local market and will give South Islanders even more travel options during the cooler months.

The airline currently operates twice-weekly services from the South Island gateway, and is the only airline flying between Christchurch and Fiji all year-round.

Andre Viljoen, Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO commented: “New Zealand is a key growth market for Fiji Airways, as highlighted in our Five Year Master Plan. These additional flights reflect our commitment to growing the New Zealand market, and will increase capacity between Christchurch and Nadi by a further 2,380 available seats.”

“South Islanders love coming to Fiji for holidays, which is why we’ve been flying from Christchurch for over 20 years. The increased seasonal frequencies from Christchurch will cater for the demand in the peak season.

“The new Thursday service, on top of our permanent Tuesday and Saturday services, will make it easy for South Islanders to take short breaks in sunny Fiji. They will also enjoy the convenience of connecting on to our Los Angeles services if they wish; also making it easy for them to travel to North America without an extra domestic New Zealand connection,” says Mr. Viljoen.

Christchurch Airport Chief Commercial Officer – Aeronautical, Justin Watson, says the additional flights are sure to be very popular with southern travellers.

“Tens of thousands of South Islanders fly out of our airport to Fiji every year and these extra flights mean many more will do that too,” he says. “Fiji Airways offers any number of holiday options, from a quick getaway, a ten day stop, longer still or travel to points across the Pacific and on to North America. The extra flights are sure to be eagerly taken up by South Islanders wanting a few days in the sun to warm up during the southern winter. Conversely, Christchurch is the gateway to the South Island, so we look forward to welcoming even more visitors who fly in here to take advantage of the ski season, or visit friends and family.  We are delighted by the airline’s extra flights.”

The new flights are on sale now and offer travel options in both Business and Economy class on the B737-800 aircraft. Fiji Airways flights are all-inclusive with checked-in and carry-on baggage, inflight entertainment, meals and beverages in both Economy and Business Class. The Business Class in particular features awardwinning wines and a menu designed by celebrity Fijian chef, Lance Seeto. From November 1st, all Business Class guests will be able to access over 60 hours of inflight entertainment on iPads.

Fiji Airways operates up to 13 weekly services between Auckland and Fiji, and two weekly services between Wellington and Nadi (Thursday, Sunday). Currently Fiji Airways flies twice weekly between Christchurch and Nadi (Tuesday, Saturday), and between June – December 2016 this will increase to three flights per week (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday). Fiji Airways is the only airline to offer child discounted airfares as well as a daily business class travel option directly from New Zealand to Fiji.
