A 33-year-old man is to appear in the Sigatoka Magistrates Court today charged with the murder of Australian woman Tracey Ann O’Brien Maw.

Ms Maw was found dead last Monday in bushes near the Vunavutu Village junction after being last seen at a drinking party the previous Thursday.

The man was detained for questioning last Friday and the charge was laid after round the clock investigations by detectives from the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in the Western Division.

Ms Maw of Shepperton, nurse rural Victoria, had been visiting the country and living in the Sigatoka area.

Overseas media reports said the visit was part of a bid to reconcile a four-year relationship with a local man.
