This is due to the indirect effects of Tropical Cyclone Pam, currently a category 4 system, and its broad rain bands. Winds at the centre of of TC Pam are estimated to be as strong as 90 knots.
On its current trajectory, TC Pam is expected to stay far west of Fiji.
However, the localised heavy rain is expected to bring flash flooding to prone areas from today the main concern for Fiji.
A strong winds warning is also in force for Rotuma, Yasawa and Mananuca groups, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands as well as all Fiji waters.
TC Pam is currently travelling 4 km/h south and was located approximately 1,000km north of Nadi at 9am this morning.
