JUNIOR Girls 800metres gold medalist, International Secondary School Maia Ramsden has encouraged silver medallist Vani Loloma of Adi Cakobau School to meet her at the Olympics ten years from now.
Maia who returns to New Zealand in June because her father’s posting as NZ’s High Commissioner in Fiji has come to an end, hugged Loloma and told her she has to continue winning the 800metres.
“I told Loloma since she came second, she has to fill in for me when I leave and continue winning this event for me and for her school,” Maia said.
“Loloma is a great athlete considering she was close behind me and I have told her to do her best so we can meet up in the Olympics ten years from now – I will be representing NZ and Loloma for Fiji.”
Loloma said she was caught off guard with Maia placing her trust on her to continue winning the 800metres.
“It’s a big request but I will do my best not to disappoint Maia,” Loloma said.
“I wish Maia and her family all the best in the future.”
Loloma said she will lock their Olympic date and work towards it.
