PM, AG Detainment, False Rumors

“We should remain on facts”. These were the words of Brigadier General Mosese Tikoitoga when responding to claims made on social media sites that the Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama and Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum had been detained by the Royal Fiji Military Forces. (RFMF).

Brigadier General Tikoitoga confirmed that these statements were false that “it is most unfortunate that these rumors are spread and cause unnecessary excitement in the community, but they are all false.

“As you know the Prime Minister is very much in charge, the attorney general has played a pivotal role and we have to give him credit for it”

The former RFMF Commander was speaking to journalists at a press conference this morning where he formally announced his resignation as military commander and the appointment of Captain Viliame Naupoto as Acting Commander of the RFMF.

Brigadier General Tikoitoga resigned to pursue a career in the foreign service.

A former Navy Commander, Viliame Naupoto was a cabinet minister in the Bainimarama government before returning to the military as Chief of Staff earlier this year.
