Members of the public have been urged to continuously adhere to the weather updates as the tropical depression slowly affects the eastern division.
At a briefing by the Nadi Meteorological Office this afternoon, principal forecaster scientific officer Misaeli Funaki said the weather office has been and continues to monitor the depression that is moving towards Rotuma.
The slow system is likely to develop into a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours as such, members of the public are urged to expect more rain and strong winds.
A strong wind warning remains in force for land areas of the eastern Vanua Levu, Lau and Yasawa group, Funaki said.
Funaki added that they have been receiving calls from people in Rakiraki regarding heavy rain that they have been experiencing since last night.
A heavy rain alert is now also in force for eastern Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Lau, Lomaiviti and the Yasawa group.
Divisional planning officer West Sitiveni Tavaga reiterated for people in Rakiraki to continue listening to the radio for weather updates and take precautionary measures as heavy rain is experienced in this part of the Western Division.
