THE district of Rakiraki has finally made it into Fiji Football’s Premier League Division after 58years of trying to make it in.
Rakiraki Football Association President Shaneel Gounder said the struggle has finally paid off.
“We have achieved our goal now. I owe this achievement to the association executives who have worked tirelessly to make this almost 60year-old dream a reality,” Mr Gounder said.
Mr Gounder also thanked the people of Rakiraki for their support and hope they will continue to support their district soccer team during the Premier League.
Mr Gounder along with other district representatives and players from Ba, Labasa, Suva, Rewa and Nadi to name a few were present at the launching of the Fiji Football Premier League series which kick starts this Saturday the 4th of February, 2017.
At the launching Vodafone Fiji Sponsorship & Marketing Manager Mr Adriu Vakarau presented a cheque of $150,000 to Fiji Football Association for the Premier League.
Players from different districts were also modelling their new uniforms which is also sponsored by Vodafone Fiji.
Chairman of the Premier League Committee Mr Yogeshwar Singh said he was grateful to Vodafone for bringing power to Fiji Football Association and assisting them in becoming a major sponsor for the Premier League as CJ Patel had pulled out after last year.
