What a day it was in Apia today!
We began with a brilliant breakfast at the Tanoa Tuisitala where we were once again given the full Samoan hospitality experience. Fresh local fruits were the highlight of the morning.
We followed our hearty meal by concluding our interview with the hilariously straightforward and incredibly articulate Vaitoa, who continued to share with us about the faafafine identity and experience.
This was followed by lunch at Amanakis where we enjoyed the delicious local delicacy poke, as well as the most succulent sizzling steak this side of the Pacific.
Of course, all three members of the team are workaholics so lunch was accompanied by an interview with the fabulous Allan Alo and the brilliantly fashionable Jackie Loheni who spoke to us about their tatau experience.
Their conversation with us was part of a long time plan to explore Samoan tatau as clothing – keep an eye out for a boundary pushing photo shoot in the upcoming September issue of Style.
We also managed to shoot popular personality and current Mr Lavalava, Petia Vui Tavete who, though at first shy, went on to bare it all.
Another highlight was the opportunity to speak to and photograph the current Miss Samoa, Susana Reti Fanueli.
Mai Life Style is always on the cutting edge of Pacific fashion, and we are always looking to bring you new faces, worthy of your attention (and of pages in our high quality publications). We are therefore proud to soon introduce you to male model Sesili Spies Faamatuainu. Again, keep an eye out for the September issue.
More tomorrow from beautiful Samoa as the team sets out on an adventure outside Apia.
