VUNIBOLA FINISHES STRONG by Andy Paul

STEAMING around the last bend of the Open Boys 3000m was Atama Vunibola of Wainibuka Secondary School. Despite being in the middle of the pack for the better part of the race, Vunibola knew he had more to give and finish the race strong as he passed two other runners in the last 50m to win the gold.
“I saw the finish line and I knew I could make it” said the 20 year old who ran a time of 9m:42s.
“I saved my energy for the last stretch because I knew it would be a tough race”
Exhausted, Vunibola had a few shout-outs that he would like to mention.
“I would like to thank God for giving me the strength” Vunibola said.
“I would also like to thank my parents for always supporting me and I would like to thank my school for giving me the chance to be running in this event”
Atam Vunibola took the gold, while Vilame Salusalu of Ratu Kadavulevu School and Mohammed Ali of Kamil College took the silver and bronze respectively.
